federated item labels and description use

Hi User:Andreas Kettelhoit (WMSE) - I saw you edited my Wikispore entry and I agree full capitalization of name was not needed and adding instance of property is likely needed as minimum, but I did not agree on the description change (especially as I am active participant in it)... Your description was more like informal remark - I can imagine that is also valid approach if metabase is only going to serve few people who are insiders and share internal agreement, but I thought you want other people to adopt it for their own uses and ideally contribute - No? --Zblace (talk) 07:56, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi Zblace, and thank you for your message!
We at Wikimedia Sverige absolutely want as many people as possible to use MetaBase to describe their projects, events and documents using structured data. And we really appreciate that you started editing MetaBase.
Regarding item descriptions, I personally think that they should be descriptive instead of explanatory, which is the reason I changed it for Wikispore (Q25169). But the main reason for my change is that items that have same as on Wikidata (P1) should have a description similar to the one on Wikidata ‒ to avoid confusion.

Microgrants

Hi Andreas, thank you for your support. I would like to present you a frequent case in Wikimedia Italia. Wikimedia Italia, through calls for proposals, funds events that are proposed and organized sometimes by institutions and other times by private individuals, often referred to by a nickname. In these cases how can I deal with them?

Again, thank you --Agnese Azzarelli (talk) 15:56, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

Hi Agnese, and thank you for reaching out!
If the organization or person has an item on Wikidata (WD) you create corresponding Metabase items (as usual) for them and use organizer (P14) or funded by (P95) on the event item. If there's no WD-item for a person, but you know their Wikidata username, then model it like User:Akbarali (Q22706) (preferably with one or more references to pages where the person's Wikimedia username appears), or like Q22498 for a non WD-notable organisation.
In cases where a Wikimedia username does not exist, I suggest the following: Create an item with a instance of (P5) of human (Q23) and a statement with the property subject named as (P76), also with references if possible.
If you have any further questions or thoughts, I'm happy to help. Happy editing! -- Andreas Kettelhoit (WMSE) (talk) 12:29, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
