About this page
This page explains how to describe a project (Q2) in Metabase, including WikiProjects, and how to link a project to its activities.
What counts as a project?
A project can be:
- formal: run officially by an organization, such as a Wikimedia chapter or a GLAM institution
- informal: run by a self-organized group, such as the participants in a WikiProject, or by an individual volunteer
The model on this page is based on how Wikimedia Sverige (Q9) structures its projects. See Wikidata for authority control (Q14) for an example. Projects from Wikimedia Sverige also use two extra properties, described in Wikimedia Sverige projects below.
Projects and their parts
A project often includes smaller activities, such as events. Link these with has part(s) (P35).
A project (Q2) is a type of activity (Q8). This means that everything you add as a part of a project must also be a type of activity (Q8).
- Do add activities organized within the project, for example a presentation (Q48), workshop (Q37) or edit-a-thon (Q41).
- Do not add documents published within the project. Link these from the document instead, with produced in the scope of the project (P36). See Help/Documents.
Example: Gothenburg museums – 2021 images year 2021 (Q21932) has three events as parts: Q21931, Q21928 and Q21924.
WikiProjects
A WikiProject is a group of editors who work together on a topic on a Wikimedia wiki, for example on Wikipedia or Wikidata. WikiProjects are usually informal and ongoing, without a fixed end date.
To describe a WikiProject:
- Add instance of (P5) with the value WikiProject (Q22926)
- Add described at Wikimedia-page (P11) with a link to the WikiProject page, using an interwiki prefix. Example: :m:Wiki Project Med
Example: WikiProject Med Foundation (Q25465)

Wikimedia Sverige projects

- sorted under programmatic area (P10)
- Example: WMSE-Access (Q7)
